Awareness Program on Organ Donation at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal

  • On September 24, 2024, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness program on organ donation at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

     

    The session was organized with the approval of Prof. Sanjib Singh Nepram, Medical Superintendent of RIMS. Ms. Chongtham Pritam, Medical Social Worker at RIMS, took charge of coordinating the event. The core participants included staff from the Outpatient Department (OPD), such as nurses, non-medical personnel, and paramedical staff.

     

    Ms. Laishram Monica Devi began the session by introducing the MOHAN Foundation, outlining its objectives and mission to promote organ donation in society. To ensure clear communication, the session was conducted in the Manipuri language.

     

    The key points discussed during the session included:

    • Types of organ donation and eligibility to become a donor.

    • The status of organ donation in India and Manipur.

    • The current situation of corneal donation in certain regions.

    • Facts and myths surrounding organ donation.

    • The differences between circulatory death, brain death, and coma.

    • The significance of the donor card.

    • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation.

    • Advances in hand and other organ transplants.

     

    The talk concluded with a Q&A session, during which the MOHAN Foundation representative addressed participants' queries. The team also offered support for organizing similar awareness activities in their communities.

     

    Nearly 40 participants attended the session, and one individual pledged to donate organs through the NOTTO QR scanner.
