Awareness Program at Sir Ivan Stedeford Hospital, Ambattur, Chennai

  • On the occasion of Organ Donation Day, Sir Ivan Stedeford Hospital at Ambattur (Chennai), invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness program on August 3, 2024. The event aimed to educate and sensitize the hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, administrative personnel, and other paramedical professionals. Approximately 100 staff members attended the program.

    Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Associate Director of Courses at MOHAN Foundation, served as the resource person for the session. She was joined by Mr. Bharath Sri and Ms. Divya Dharshini, postgraduate social work students from Madras School of Social Work interning at MOHAN Foundation, who also participated in the program.

    The session covered basic concepts including organ donation and transplantation, the different types of organ donors, and the process of organ donation. A detailed explanation of organ donation following brainstem death was shared, covering the concept of brainstem death, certification procedures, and the legal framework for organ donation in India. The important role of family in the organ donation process was also discussed, emphasizing the importance of having conversations about organ donation within the family.

    Queries from the participants were addressed, and those interested were given donor cards. The participants further demonstrated their support by joining the signature campaign, "I SUPPORT ORGAN DONATION.
