On December 17, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation, under the expert guidance of transplant coordinator Mr. Bulu J Behera, organized an informative desk at Super Specialist Hospital, located near Tukdoji Square, Nagpur. Positioned strategically near the Kidney Patient OPD, the initiative aimed to raise awareness about kidney transplantation and organ donation among patients and their families.
The desk provided in-depth information about the kidney transplant process, the necessary legal documentation, the concept of organ donation, age limits, and time factors involved in the transplantation journey. Visitors were also educated about the importance of donor cards and the procedures for registering as organ donors.
In addition to kidney transplantation, the desk featured information on advanced transplant procedures, such as hand, leg, and skin transplants. A significant focus was placed on the legal aspects of organ transplantation, ensuring visitors gained a comprehensive understanding of the topic. During the event, numerous engaging discussions took place, with visitors asking insightful questions about life expectancy after liver transplants, the feasibility of leg transplants in India, and the criteria for bone marrow transplants. These conversations provided valuable answers and effectively addressed the concerns of the attendees.
The event also showcased the MOHAN Foundation’s various training initiatives and encouraged visitors to watch the thought-provoking film "Ayee Zindagi", which further emphasized the importance of organ donation.
Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of 43 individuals, the event was a resounding success. 6 visitors pledged for organ donation on-site, while others expressed interest in completing the process online. The event’s success was made possible through the unwavering support and permission of Dr. Sushama Thakare, whose facilitation was instrumental in the desk's setup at the hospital.
