  • On June 25, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Conference Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, for the nursing students of Saraswati Institute of Management & Paramedical Sciences (SIMPS), Pangei. The programme was conducted by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The institute's principal coordinated the session, and the nursing students participated.

     

    Ms. Monica started the session by evaluating the students' prior knowledge of organ donation and transplantation. She explained the mission and goals of the MOHAN Foundation. She covered a number of important topics, such as the different types of organ donation, the legal aspects of transplantation, and the distinctions between circulatory death and brain death. She also shared anecdotes from Manipur's deceased donation and transplant program. She dispelled common myths and presented facts about organ donation. Ms. Monica gave information on corneal transplants and the role of the eye bank. She described the professional training courses offered by the Foundation.

     

    Ms. Udayini highlighted the importance of family consent in the organ donation process. She outlined the procedures for pledging or registering for organ donation. Subsequently, the team engaged in a brief discussion with the participants, addressing several queries.

     

    Later, the team distributed FAQs on organ donation to the participants.

     

    Close to 45 participants attended the session.
