Parents of Brain Dead Boy Donated His Organs

    In a noble gesture, parents of a 14-year-old boy, V Roop Kumar, who was declared brain-dead, donated the child’s liver, kidneys and eyes.

    The vital organs of the child, who became brain dead following a head injury, were harvested at Sunrise Hospital and the organs were sent to the needy patients of Hyderabad and Vijayawada cities and assumed to have saved the lives of five people.

    The donor, V Roop Kumar, was studying in Class VIII at the government school sustained severe head injury at 5 p.m. after falling in the school ground while playing with his classmates. A medico legal case was booked in Machavaram Police station, and the child was admitted in the Government General Hospital near Siddhartha Medical College at around 11.45 p.m. the same night. Attempts to treat the boy failed and he was declared brain dead by doctors of the Government hospital.

    As doctors suggested to the parents to donate the boy’s organs for the needy, they readily agreed and donated with the help of Jeevandan programme.

    The child’s kidneys were shifted to city-based Aayush and Sunrise hospitals, while the liver was shifted to Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. The eyes were donated to a needy a patient at Dr Agarwal’s eye hospital.

    The city police provided a special way (green corridor) for speedy transport of the organs. The liver was taken to Hyderabad in a special chopper. The doctors and the city police appreciated the boy’s parents V Sivaram Krishna and V Sunitha for donating their son’s organs and saving other lives.
