3194. SHRI KAILASH JOSHI Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:- (a) whether certain expert committees have submitted their reports to the Government regarding organ transplantation; (b) if so, the number of such reports received along with the date of their receipt; (c) whether the Government has taken any action to bring about necessary changes in the law with a view to end the suffering of such patients on the basis of said reports; and (d) if not, the reasons therefor? |

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. PANABAKA LAKSHMI) (a) Yes Sir. (b) The report of Transplant of Human Organs Act (THOA) Review Committee was submitted to the Government on 25th May, 2005. (c) & (d) Among other things, the Committee recommended the creation of awareness about organ donations through Information/Education/Communication programmes and through incentives, with the objective of increasing organ availability, especially cadaver organs. Consultations with other stake holders including State Governments would be necessary on the recommendations. |
