AMENDMENT IN HUMAN ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION ACT

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Government proposes to make any amendment in Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994; and

(b) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI GHULAM NABI AZAD)

(a) & (b) Yes. The Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Bill, 2011 has already been passed by the Lok Sabha on 12th August, 2011.

The amendments are intended to increase the availability of human organs and tissues, make the processes easier and to prevent the commercial dealings in human organs by prescribing more stringent punishment under the Act.
