MOHAN Foundation Conducted an Awareness Talk at University Level Youth Red Cross Training Camp Kurukshetra University, Kurushetra Haryana

On 28th May 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Programme Coordinator Prof. D.S Rana Youth Red Cross Kukukshetra to conduct an awareness talk at University Level Youth Red Cross Training Camp Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra Haryana.

This Session is organised by Field Coordinator Dr. Santosh Kumar.

In this camp, students were being provided an opportunity of community living and knowledge of Red Cross, General Health Awareness and First Aid Training, Role of Volunteers in Social Welfare activities. Around 180 stundents from Kurukshetra University, Haryana, and 10 counsellors from Haryana and 5 Faculty Members of Kurukshetra University – Haryana participated in the session.

 Programme Coordinator Prof. D.S Rana facilitated the introduction addressed the participants telling them how important is organ donation and it provides the opportunity to improve the quality of life and saving lives of others. It is the greatest gift one can ever give.

Participants were given an introduction and presentation on Organ Donation and Brain Death by Ms. Neha Sharma.

The session included two short films and a detailed PowerPoint presentation covering:

- The need for organ donation

- The status of organ donation in India

- Organs that can be donated during life and after death

- Transplant law

- Cornea donation

- Brain death and its causes

- Differences between brain death and coma

- Contraindications to organ donation

- The role of MOHAN Foundation and the public in raising awareness

- Myths and facts about organ donation.

Ms. Neha also explained the process of eye donation. She informed the participants that eye donation is a simple procedure that can be even done at home. She motivated the participants to begin with promoting eye donation in their respective areas. She also explained the importance of Donor Card. She said that it acts as an icebreaker for the doctors to initiate conversation with the families of a potential brain-dead person for organ donation if a donor card is found on the deceased person. She informed the audience that a donor card must always be carried as it acts as an identity proof and shows a person’s willingness to donate organs upon death.

 Participants were very enthusiastic and asked many queries related to the transplantation process. Participants were highly satisfied and motivated with the noble cause by the MOHAN Foundation.
