MOHAN Foundation invited in the State Level Continuing Nursing Education Conference 2024 held at Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol

On May 16, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited to the State Level Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Conference 2024, organized by Shija Academy of Nursing (SAN) and the Nursing Department of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (SHRI), in collaboration with the Manipur Nursing Council. The event was held at Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation, attended the programme.

 

The conference was conducted in conjunction with International Nurses Day 2024, themed “Our Nurses, Our Future, The Economic Power of Care.” Prof. Ch. Babita Devi, Principal of SAN, contacted MOHAN Foundation and invited Ms. Monica to deliver a presentation on “The Process of Organ Donation & Nurses.”

 

The program commenced with the inaugural session led by Prof. N. Nalinibala Devi, Principal of the College of Nursing (CON) at ACME. Prof. Nalinibala Devi emphasized the significance of the "Economic Value of Professional Nurses," shedding light on various aspects crucial to understanding the invaluable contributions nurses make to healthcare systems. Following the insightful opening, Mr. Laishram John Singh, Lecturer of Psychiatric Nursing at CON, RIMS, took the stage for the second session. His discourse centered around "Prioritizing Mental Well-being for Healthcare Providers," recognizing the pivotal role mental health plays in ensuring effective care delivery.

 

The momentum of the program surged forward with the third session, led by Dr Ksh. Shilpa Devi, Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at SHRI. Dr Shilpa provided a comprehensive overview of the "Management of Critically Ill Patients," offering key insights into handling complex critical care scenarios. Later, the fourth segment was helmed by Mrs. Kh. Beronika Devi, an Infection Control Nurse Executive at SHRI. Mrs. Beronika Devi delved into various protocols essential for maintaining optimal infection control practices within hospital settings, emphasizing the critical role of stringent protocols in safeguarding patient health.

 

Concluding the series of enlightening sessions was Ms. Monica, who delved into the intricacies of "The Process of Organ Donation & Nurses." This topic was the first of its kind in the state-level CNE programme, and one point of credit hour was allotted. Ms. Monica commenced the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation to the participants. She then offered valuable insights on the following points with the help of a PowerPoint presentation:

 

• Organ donation and its needs

• Laws enacted for transplantation

• Types of donors

• Brain death and the process involved

• Roles of nurses in organ donation

• The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation

• Cases of potential brain death turning into actual deceased donors in Manipur

• Courses offered by the MOHAN Foundation

 

A post-test was conducted at the end of the programme to assess the knowledge gained from the sessions. Many shared positive feedback on the session.

 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Bonney Khundongbam, Chief Executive Officer, SHRI.

 

Close to 300 participants attended the programme.
