On April 19, 2024, MOHAN Foundation (MF) received an invitation to conduct an organ donation awareness session at the ICICI Academy for Skills in Karol Bagh, New Delhi. Ms. Simran Anand served as the resource person, accompanied by Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officer at MF, Delhi NCR.

This session marked the NCR team's second awareness session for ICICI Academy for Skills students this year, with the previous session held on January 31, 2024.

The session commenced with an inquiry into participants' knowledge about organ donation. Ms. Anand then elaborated on the current status of organ donation in India and elucidated the fundamental concepts of organ donation and transplantation using a PowerPoint presentation. Various topics were covered in detail, including:

• The significance of organ donation and its importance

• Eligibility criteria for organ donors

• Distinction between live and deceased donors

• Organs suitable for donation during life and after death

• Understanding brain death

• Eye donation process and cornea preservation post-mortem

• The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

• The role of MOHAN Foundation

• Individual contributions towards this noble cause

• Dispelling myths surrounding organ donation

• Differentiating between coma and brain death

To foster interaction, Ms. Anand engaged participants by prompting them to answer questions such as:

• Is a brain-dead person considered alive or dead?

• Can individuals who pass away due to circulatory death donate their organs?

• Is organ donation feasible within a home setting?

The session proved highly interactive, with participants actively participating in discussions and posing numerous queries, including:

• Do donor families receive access to recipient information?

• Are there costs associated with organ donation?

Close to 60 participants attended the session, contributing to its success.
