Ms. Pallavi Kumar invited as a Panellist at a TTS Webinar

Ms Pallavi Kumar was invited as a panellist at the webinar titled “Burden of Consent and Consent in Deceased Donation” organised by TTS (The Transplantation Society) Education Committee in coordination with the TTS Ethics Committee and the International Society of Organ Donation and Procurement (ISODP) March 19, 2024.

This was part of a series of educational webinars that have been specially designed for the whole TTS membership. The series has been carefully curated with the aim of addressing a wide range of topics and drawing on diverse expertise and perspectives from around the world.

The webinar addressed the complicated issue of consent. The first presentation by Mr Brendan Parent from the US (Attorney, Director of Transplant Ethics and Policy Research, and Assistant Professor of Medical ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine) addressed questions like: What does it mean to consent to everything in the context of deceased donation? How far can it go? What does it sign away?

The second presentation by Farrah Raza from UK (Stipendiary Lecturer in Public Law at Pembroke College, University of Oxford) addressed the question of ‘How to deal with the burden of consent’ by assessing: (i) the relevant legal requirements and frameworks and (ii) ethical factors in practice.

The second half of the webinar featured a panel discussion where Ms Kumar was a panellist along with Brendan Parent (US), Farrah Raza (UK), Tina Coco (Australia) and Ebun L Bamgboye (Nigeria). The discussion was moderated David Thomson (Councilor TTS) and Helen Opdam (President ISODP).
