Organ Donation Awareness Talk at St. Francis School, Duler, Mapusa, Goa |
On February 21, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from MOHAN Foundation, held an organ donation awareness talk at St. Francis School, Duler, Mapusa, Goa.
Mr. Gabriel thanked the principal, Bro. Peter Lemos, and the teachers for giving MOHAN Foundation an opportunity to conduct the awareness talk and started with showing the video on brain stem death.
He explained that MOHAN is an acronym for Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network, and he spoke about the mission of the NGO, how long it's been in service to the people, and its objectives.
He discussed how one can become involved in organ donation and how he himself became involved. His family required a kidney transplant, so he took it upon himself to disseminate the word and raise awareness about organ donation.
There were roughly 20 teachers and non-teaching staff. He explained about circulatory death and brain stem death and which tissues or organs could be donated after these deaths.
Gabriel advised them to undergo regular blood and urine tests to assess creatine levels and protein in the urine, USG abdomen and pelvis examinations every six months, and an annual eye examination for those with diabetes or hypertension.
Three teachers signed up for organ donation, and one teacher consented to whole-body donation by taking the prescribed form. 25 Gift of Life flyers were distributed.
