On February 15, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation (MF) Delhi NCR office was invited to conduct an organ donation awareness session at Cloudnine Hospital (CH), Kailash Colony. Ms. Sonali Joshi, People Department, CH, had reached out to Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF NCR, via email to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for Kailash Colony employees. Ms. Simran Anand was the speaker for the session, and she was accompanied by Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officer, MF NCR. The session was attended by OTs, nurses, and administration staff.

Previously, the session on organ donation was held at the Patparganj and Noida branches.

Ms. Simran Anand began the session by asking participants what they knew about organ donation. They were then shown the statistics that showed the huge gap between demand and supply of organs in our country. The following topics were covered in detail:

• What is organ donation, and why is it important to donate organs?
• Who can be an organ donor?
• Explanation of live and deceased donors
• Organs that can be donated during life and after death
• Brain death
• Eye donation and steps required to preserve corneas after death.
• Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994
• Role of the MOHAN Foundation
• What an individual can do to contribute to this noble cause
• Myths and facts about organ donation
• Differences between coma and brain death

A short informative film on brain death was shown, and the importance of family consent in the process of organ donation was also explained in detail.

Participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked a few questions, including:

• How are tissues retrieved and stored?

• If an individual has an eye-sight problem, will he or she be allowed to donate eyes?
