Awareness session on organ donation at Urban Health Center, Singjamei, Manipur |
On November 9, 2023, MOHAN Foundation was invited to an awareness session organised by the Urban Health Centre (UHC), Singjamei, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, attended the programme as the key speakers.
The programme was conducted as part of the Weekly Health Mela. The programme was coordinated by Dr. N. Haraba Singh, Medical Officer In-Charge, UHC, Singjamei. The medical officers, nurses, staff, and patients attending the OPD were the participants of the session.
Ms. Monica opened the session by introducing the MOHAN Foundation, its objectives, and its vision. The concepts of organ donation and transplantation were evaluated by the participants by asking a few questions. Then, she updated the ongoing kidney transplantation programme in the state of Manipur.
Further, she explained the following points in detail:
Organ donation and its need in society The challenges faced by patients who do not have a donor The organ transplant waiting list and the issues of organ trading in India Types of organ donors The difference between brain death and coma First and second deceased organ donations in Manipur Importance of the family’s consent in the process of organ donation. Process of pledging for organ donation on the National Organs and Tissues Transplant Organisation’s (NOTTO) website.
Thereafter, a group pledge with the participants was coordinated by Ms. Udayini.
At the end of the session, FAQs on organ donation were distributed to all the participants for better understanding of the topic.
Close to 35 participants attended the session.
