Awareness Session on Organ Donation conducted at Civil Hospital, Jhajjar, Haryana

On July 3, SOTTO Haryana, along with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Civil Hospital, Jhajjar.

The session began by Dr. Sandeep, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Information & Education & Communication In charge (ICN), Civil Hospital, Jhajjar, extending a warm welcome to Ms. Renu Kumari of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Deepti Kumari and Mr. Rajesh Kumar of SOTTO Haryana.

Ms. Deepti gave a comprehensive explanation of organ donation and its legal implications. Ms. Renu Kumari discussed the impact of organ donation on saving lives, common misunderstandings about it, the functions of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, and MOHAN Foundation, myths, and facts about organ donation, how to register as an organ donor, and the significance of a donor card.

The event received an overwhelmingly positive response from the participants. Dr. Sandeep, the supporting staff, and the patients participated actively in the discussion and expressed their willingness to support the noble cause of organ donation. Organ donation FAQs and informative pamphlets were also distributed. Many interesting queries were posed by the participants. To name a few:

• If a family refuses to donate organs of their loved one upon death, do they lose their priority for obtaining an organ in the future?

• How do you determine who receives an organ as a transplant priority?

Dr. Sandeep encouraged the staff members to consider registering as organ donors and disseminating awareness among their families as the session ended.

Close to 122 individuals attended the session that was conducted in 2 batches. 17 pledged to become organ donors.
