Organ and Body donation awareness session at Symbiosis Hospital and Research Center |
On 18th March 2023, organ and body donation awareness talk was given by Mr. Jagdish Borude, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation at Symbiosis Medical College for Women and Symbiosis Hospital and Research Centre, Lawale, Pune. Mr. Jagdish had been invited as guest speaker to deliver a lecture on "Body and organ donation" at 5th MAHACON conference organised by Regional Chapter of Anatomy, Maharashtra and Symbiosis Medical College for Women, Lawale, Pune. The talk was organised with the help of Dr. Mandar Ambike, Deputy Dean, Symbiosis Medical College for Women and HOD, Anatomy department. The main aim of this talk was to aware anatomists that how transplant coordinators face challenges and grief counseling is done and how body and organ donation takes place.
Mr. Jagdish first did introduction of MOHAN Foundation and its role in organ donation and it's activities. Mr. Jagdish then elaborated what is organ donation and body donation and basic concepts in organ donation. The talk given by Mr. Jagdish was interactive in nature. He then discussed the following topics on organ and body donation: 1. Concept of organ donation and tissue donation 2. Concept and definition of Brain death 3. Types of death - Brain death and cardiac death 4. Organs and tissues donated after brain death and circulatory death 5. Why organ donation is important in India? 6. How one can save lives of 8 people 7. Body donation and importance. 8. Grief counseling and stages of Grief counseling. 9. Documents needed for Body donation. THOTA act 1994 and importance.
The motive of the session was to aware anatomists and MBBS students and sensitise them about organ and body donation and also aware them about what are the challenges faced by transplant coordinators and grief counselors so that successful donations happen. After the end of talk, audiance had taken the contact details of Mr. Jagdish. Dr. Joy, Dean, AIIMS, Mangalgiri, Andhra Pradesh asked to coordinate to implement organ donation program at his institute. There were approximately 100 people attended the organ donation awareness talk. |
