The Panpharmacon Student Club, Department of Pharmacology, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences Bengaluru organised a webinar on Organ Donation.  It was conducted on March 25, 2022 and MOHAN Foundation, the knowledge partner was represented by Dr Hemal Kanvinde (Quality Assurance Officer) and Ms Ranjini Shankar, (Project officer).

Dr J. Anbu, Prof and Head (i/c), Department of Pharmacology, welcomed the faculty, speakers and the students. Around 96 people attended the talk. The Concepts of Organ Donation was explained by Dr. Hemal. Who can be donors, what can be donated, the Law on Transplants, how to register and statistics on transplants was discussed through a presentation. Apart from this the need for transplants, myth and misconception among the public were also touched upon. Dr Hemal shared stories of recipients and donors to show the human side of this life saving cause.  The talk was followed by a video explaining Brain death.  

The next talk by Ms. Ranjini Shankar was on the stages of Grief as well as explaining the points through a case study.  It was very informative for the students.  They understood the complex human emotions that grief counselors have to tackle in every case of brain dead – organ donation. Next, the audience was exposed to a video testimonial by a kidney recipient. They were made aware of the Gift of Life.

There was a very interactive Q&A session:

Complication in declaration of brain death, costs of transplants and how to make them affordable, skin transplantation – why and how, success of kidney and lung transplants, age limits to donation, contraindication to pledge for donation.
