Awareness program on Organ Donation at Vijaya Health Center (Session 1) |
Vijaya Health Center was established with a vision to provide exemplary physical and emotional care for patients and their families. They have upgraded their services by becoming an internationally accredited hospital. The year 2022 is their golden jubilee and as part of the celebrations, they planned to create awareness among the staff about this cause. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation on November 4, 2022 for around 80 nursing and other staff. The awareness session was conducted in the NRI MET auditorium of the health centre. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Mr Ganesh & Ms. Arshiya Fathima . H were the resource person for the session. Ms Vedikha and Ms Preetha, interns from MMM College of Health Science set up the welcome and information desk at the entry of the auditorium. Dr B. Bharathi Reddy (Managing Trustee & CEO) spoke of the vision of the hospital and how Organ Donation is central to the theme of selfless service. Dr V Ganesan (Academic Director & Clinical Safety Officer) started the session with information on Blood Donation and also he shared his experiences. He welcomed the MOHAN Foundation team. Dr Hemal Kanvinde congratulated the hospital staff on reaching a milestone and establishing a legacy of good care. She thanked the management for selecting Organ Donation as a theme. The session began with a short video highlighting the importance of organ donation. Ms. Arshiya Fathima explained on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what and when donation can happen and brain death. When and how skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation is done was also explained. She also spoke of the myths that the community has about organ donation. At the end a video explaining brain death was played followed by a recipient testimonial video. In the Q&A session some clarifications were on: About registration as a donor, organ allocation procedure and registration as a patient. Of the participants, 39 of them pledged to become organ donors. MOHAN Foundation thanks Dr Ganesan for all the arrangements.
