Awareness session for students of Sathyabama School of Nursing, Chennai |
An online awareness on organ donation was held for the nursing students of Sathyabama School of Nursing, Chennai on May 17, 2022. The college had organized a room with a projector wherein they were playing the zoom talks. Nursing students were asked to join in this room as well as individually for those who were not on the college premises. More than 148 students and 7 faculty members joined the session. Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, Ms Preetha Baskar, Project Executive and Mr Ganesh C, Marketing Executive from MOHAN Foundation conducted the sessions.
The webinar began with screening of a short film - to get them to understand the value of donation. The next session was on concepts of Organ Donation - wherein topics such as why, how, when and when donation takes place were explained by Ms. Preetha. She also brought a human element by narrating donor and recipient stories. This session ended with a short film on Brain Death.
The next session was on importance of counseling, Dr Hemal Kanvinde talked about the recipient/patient counseling, do’s and don't s. She used a story to bring forth important aspects of patient counseling. A video of heart transplant recipient was screened to emphasis the positive outcomes of a organ transplant.
Mr Ganesh started off the next session with an introduction to the career of a transplant coordinator. He gave a brief account of the courses offered by MOHAN Foundation to train as a Transplant Coordinator.
