Nursing students of Rajalakshmi College of Nursing, Thandalam, Chennai were taken though multiple sessions to create awareness on organ donation and transplantation on April 30, 2022. All four year students and faculty members of the College attended the session. About 85 students and six faculties have participated in the program. Mr Vijay - Transplant Manager, Saveetha Hospital, Mr Ganesh C- Marketing Coordinator and Ms Preetha Baskar - Project Executive, MOHAN Foundation conducted the sessions. The program commenced with a welcome address by Ms Shanthi, Vice Principal. Ms Preetha Baskar addressed the gathering and started the session explaining the basic concepts on Organ Donation, What, When, Why and How Organ Donation is done. She dispelled the myths and narrated two life changing stories. She emphasized the importance of donor cards and the process for pledging the organs. A film of brain death was screened to explain the certification process. Mr Vijay started his session explaining live and deceased organ donation and transplant. He explained the role of nurses in the process of organ donation and transplantation. This was followed by a Question and Answer session. The following questions were answered by Mr Vijay. 1. Can a Donor Card be used for live organ donation? 2. I have a family member suffering from organ failure. If I become a potential brain dead donor, will my organs be allocated to my family members in the first place? 3. How many times can a healthy person donate a part of his/her liver? The program ended with a short information about Transplant Coordinator courses. Mr. Ganesh C spoke of the different career based courses offered by MOHAN Foundation. Almost 50 students took up the donor card. MOHAN Foundation thanks Ms Anitha Rajendra Babu, Principal and Ms Shanthi, Vice Principal and other faculty members for their support to conduct this program.
