Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS conducted an interactive webinar session on creating an awareness on Organ donation and the concept of Brain death to the nursing staff of Nimhans hospital bengaluru on 09th February 2022 at 10am morning. Around 85 members attended the session. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS and Mr. Marulappa LN. Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death - cardiac death and she also discussed in detail about brain death declaration through Apnoea test and few other clinical aspects like Corneal reflex test (the eyes don’t move when the eye surface is touched), Oculocephalic reflex test (the eyes don’t move when the head is moved) and Oculovestibular reflex test (the eyes don’t move when ice water is poured into the ear) and procedure of deceased organ donation and live organ donation and the procedure of deceased and living organ donation. Mrs. Ranjini then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well and she explained about the importance of the donor card and how one can become an organ donor. Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS spoke thereafter, inviting the participants to join MOHAN Foundation’s internship and volunteering program. Details of Organ Donation Helpline No 18001037100 were also shared.
