Organ Donation Awareness at Surana College in association with Cause Travelers |
Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS conducted an interactive awareness session on organ donation at Surana College on 17th December 2021. Mr. Bhal Shekhar Chilana and his wife, Mrs. Namita Dutta of the Cause Travelers were the chief guests for the event. The couple has been on a road trip across India, creating awareness among public and at educational institutions about the cause. Around 72 members attended the session. Mrs. Ranjini, Project Manager and Mr. Marulappa L N, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation and Mr. Chilana and Mrs. Dutta of Cause Travellers addressed the students of the college. Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission and vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death - cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedure of deceased and living organ donation. Mrs. Ranjini then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well. A motivational video was played for the audience. Mr. Chilana continued to talk about the importance of organ donation, also touched upon the importance of donor card and briefly explained about living donation by giving an example of his own daughter being a kidney recipient and his son-in-law a donor, both of whom are successfully leading a healthy life. Students voluntarily shared positive feedback and appreciated the work of MOHAN Foundation and the Cause Travellers. All 72 members supported the cause and pledged for organ donation.
