MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh, Session - 262

On 10th November 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the secretary, Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their First Aid Students at Vivekanand Bhawan, Chandigarh. Around 23 participants from various parts of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh attended the program. The participants included college students, patient care attendants, home nursing, nannies and bus conductors

 

Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch started asking the participants what is organ donation and has anybody ever donated blood. After knowing the status of the participants she started her talk on organ donation.

 

Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch.

 

In this talk, she explained the following points: -

  • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
  • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
  • She challenged 5 myths with 5 facts on organ donation
  • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
  • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
  • Real life stories of an organ transplant being shared with the participants
  • Importance of donor card
  • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
  • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

 

The entire group got motivated and convinced to support organ donation. Around 23 people were present in the training room and 6 of them online registered for organ donation. They would love to share their wish with their families and also respect for the body after death.  Brochures were also given to the participants.
