Online One-Month ‘Transplant Coordination Professional Certificate’ Course for July 2021 Batch Successfully Conducted |
MOHAN Foundation successfully conducted the online one-month ‘Transplant Coordination Professional Certificate’ course from 1st to 29th July 2021 on the MOODLE platform. There was a total of 30 participants-29 from different parts of India (Haryana -1, Karnataka-5, Madhya Pradesh-3, Andhra Pradesh-1, Uttar Pradesh-2, Tamil Nadu-6, Puducherry-1, Punjab-1, Delhi-3, Rajasthan-4, Kerela-1, West Bengal-1) and one from Kuwait enrolled for the course. The participants came from various cadres of healthcare and other professions like doctor, transplant coordinator, social worker, surgical assistant, internal audit, territory business manager, patient care officer, urology/ nephrology coordinator, front office, transplant nurse, patient relation officer, senior manager, medical record technician, nurse, dialysis technician, training facilitator, social welfare manager and physician assistant.
The participants received credentials to access the resource materials made available for 4 weeks. Any query raised was promptly answered through phone calls, email and WhatsApp chat. A WhatsApp group was maintained to communicate instructions and notifications regarding the course.
Weekend webinars were held on Saturdays in the evening from 4 pm to 6 pm where the participants got to attend guest lectures and experience virtual interactions. The moderators and faculty for the webinars from MOHAN Foundation were Dr. Sumana Navin, Course Director, Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Manager-Information Systems, Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar, Marketing Coordinator and Mrs. Elizabeth Prasanna, Programme Associate. The guest speakers who contributed were Ms. Rathi R, Transplant coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialist, PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore and Mr. Gipson John, Chief Transplant Coordinator, Aster Group of Hospitals, Karnataka. The webinar enabled participants to clarify their doubts with the faculty.
A ‘Role-play’ was organised in an attempt to give the participants an opportunity to have an hands-on experience on approaching families for organ donation. The faculty included Lt. Col. Sandhya V Nair (Retd), Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Medanta-The Medicity (Gurugram), Ms. Mayuri Barge, Manager- Organ transplant program, Dr. D. Y. Patil Hospital (Pune), Mr. Prakash K, Senior Transplant Coordinator, MGM Healthcare (Chennai) and Mr. Yuvaraj Boopathi, Transplant Coordinator, KIMS Hospital (Secunderabad). The participants were divided into four groups using the breakout rooms. The faculty in each group narrated a challenging situation to the participants and invited them to share their perspectives. The session was wrapped up with observations and feedback shared by the faculty. Thus, the roleplay enabled the participants with a deeper understanding of the roles, responsibilities and challenges faced by transplant coordinators while approaching families for organ donation and helped preparing them for their career in the field of organ donation and transplant coordination. At the end of the 4-week training period, an online examination was conducted. A total of 28 out of 30 candidates passed the exam and received their online certificates.
