There were 18 participants in the first batch of Ambassadors who underwent training on 23rd January 2021. Students of Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and a few other colleges and a few Life Members of MOHAN Foundation participated in the training.
The first segment of self-introduction was followed by feedback to the Module 1 and questions related to it. Experts answering the queries were Dr. Sunil Shroff – Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation, Dr. Ravi Mohanka – Transplant Surgeon, Global Hospital Mumbai, Ms. Jaya Jairam, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde of MOHAN Foundation. Queries related to dearth of organs, surgery costing, allocation and outcomes were raised. A few participants shared their stories related to donation within their families.
Following the interaction a session on Gratitude and Communication was conducted by Dr. Muneet Kaur. The letters thanking donor families, written during this session were read out. This helped the participants understand the value of organ donation, impact of the act on donor families, recipients and their families.
The modes of communication to be used for creating awareness among various communities was explained by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde through an illustrative presentation. The participants agreed that they would be able to use some of the methods.
In the next session, participants were assigned to breakout rooms and asked to prepare and present 3-4 slides on select topics on organ donation. Every room had a MOHAN foundation staff to guide them. After the exercise, the leader of every team presented their work and were guided by others on ways to improve their presentation. All participants gained some confidence in speaking with others on organ donation.
In the last session participants shared feedback about the module and discussed their plans to organise awareness activities.
