Organ Donation Awareness at Ganesh Utsav in Nagpur |
On 8th September 2019, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation, conducted an awareness programme on organ donation at Surya Nagar Ganesh Utsav Mandal, Nagpur on the occasion of Ganesh Utsav. A blood donation camp, eye check-up camp along with organ donation awareness stall had been set up under the coordination of Mr Ajay .Baheti, the organiser in Surya Nagar Ganesh Utsav Welfare Society. The session which began around 10:30 AM was attended by around 40 participants. Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) introduced MOHAN Foundation and Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation. The participants were familiar only with eye donation and had no idea about the organ donation at the start of the session. Ms. Prarthana explained the concepts of organ donation, why and when is an organ transplant required. She also explained various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, viability of organs after retrieval. She elaborated on the difference between brain death and cardiac death. She also elaborated on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and discussed the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She also briefed about skin donation, eye donation, organ donation and body donation. Audience asked the following few questions:
