The final year students of S.V.S College of Engineering, Coimbatore have registered a society, called U & I, for disseminating information about social causes in the public interest. As part of this activity and to inaugurate the society, MOHAN Foundation was invited to create awareness about deceased organ donation and the present scenario in India and in Tamil Nadu in particular. The inaugural programme was organised on 30^th June 2012. The special guests were the faculty and office-bearers of S.V.S College of Engineering.

Mr. Nirmal, a final year student of the college and a founding member of U & I gave the introductory speech and explained the mission and vision of the society. In his speech, he stressed the fact that the level of awareness about organ, blood and eye donation, human rights, RTI, RTE, etc is low even among the literate. The main purpose of setting up such a society was to help bring about a change in the perspective among the general public and for the common good.

About 70 students, staff and members of the society participated in the programme. Mr.Christopher Asir, Transplant Coordinator from MOHAN Foundation gave a talk about deceased organ donation and transplantation. He dealt with issues like organ shortage and lack of awareness about brain death. The session also included screening of a short film - UYIR KODU. At the end of the session, information about Donor card and its importance in creating awareness was explained to the students. Everybody present in the hall pledged to support organ donation and picked up a Donor card.
