MOHAN Foundation delivers a talk on the Transplant Law for Social Work Students |
Dr. Mrs. Rashami Babhulkar MSW Part -I Class Director of Matru Sewa Sangh, Institute of Social Work, Bajaj Nagar, Nagpur invited Dr. Ravi Wankhede Hon. Director MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur to deliver a talk on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act. The session was organised on 3rd March 2019 in the campus. Dr. Babhulkar introduced Dr. Ravi Wankhede to the students, who then explained the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (Amendment Rules 2014). He said that the THOA is a written law of Government of India passed by the two houses of Parliament. The law came into effect in the year 1994 and later some amendments were made, the latest being Rules 2014. He said that the objectives of the Act are:
The Act covers a wide range of aspects such as the Authority for removal of human organs or tissues in case of living persons and after brain death. He explained brain death using a short animated video that helped understand the causes of brain death. Dr. Wankhede explained that there is a Panel of experts for brain-stem death certification and elaborated on the qualifications of the panel members. He also explained the duties of the registered medical practitioner as well as the requirements of the Transplant Hospitals who should fulfill the availability of equipment and manpower. He also informed the students that after MSW they can take up a career to become a Transplant Coordinator in a Transplant Hospital.
