Organ Donation Campaign – E.G.S Pillay College, Nagapattinam |
E.G.S.Pillay College Secretary Mr. Parameshwaran invited Cadaver Transplant Programme (CTP), Govt. of Tamil Nadu to participate in a campaign on Organ Donation for the students. E.G.S.Pillay College is well known for its service in the field of Blood Donation in the district and therefore they decided to extend the campaign to Organ Donation. Transplant Coordinators, Ms.Veena & Mr.Vijay from MOHAN Foundation, were deputed by CTP to participate in this event and educate the students about the concepts of Organ Donation.
Dr.Asokan, father of Deceased Organ Donor Mr.Hithendran, was also invited by the college for the campaign. He was felicitated for his magnanimous gesture and he shared his experience of donating his son’s organs. Later, the Transplant Coordinators of MOHAN Foundation screened a short film on organ donation and shared the real life stories of organ donations that had taken place in Rajiv Gandhi Govt. General Hospital, Chennai.
As part of the campaign E.G.S.Pillay College organized a rally to promote Organ Donation in Nagapattinam. The rally was flagged off by Mr.G.Ramar, Superintendent of Police, Nagapattinam District & Mrs.M.Asia Mariam, District Revenue Officer, Nagapattinam District on 20th March 2012 at 03:00pm. Almost 3000 students of the E.G.S.Pillay Group of colleges (Engineering, Pharmacy, Arts & Science, and Polytechnic) participated in the rally covering 4 km in Nagapattinam District.
Organ Donation Pledging by the students, staff, parents and general public took place on 21st March 2012 at the premises of E.G.S.Pillay College. The pledging programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest - Shri.T.Munusamy, District Collector, Nagapattinam, and was presided over by Shri.T.Vasudevan, General Manager, ONGC, Neravy. The Final year students of Mechanical Engineering Dept. had created an interesting film clip on organ donation, which was screened.
The Founder, E.G.S.Pillay Group of Institutions, Shri. E.G.S.Pillay received the first Donor Card, followed by the guests. 2500 students pledged for the Donor Card and many of the residents of Nagapattinam came to E.G.S.Pillay college to take a pledge to donate their organs as well. |
