One week training programme for Transplant Coordinators in Ahmedabad |
A one-week training programme for Transplant coordinators is being held in Ahmedabad from 20th to 24th February 2012. MOHAN Foundation in collaboration with Shatayu, an NGO based in Ahmedabad, is bringing the training programme to the city.
The deceased organ donation initiatives in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have resulted in the transplantation of 3200 organs and tissues like kidneys, liver, heart, heart-valves and eyes. The success of MOHAN Foundation’s trained counsellors has been consistently over 65%. The national rate of deceased organ donation is 0.08 per million population, but the donation rate is 5 to 15 times the national average in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively.
The goal of such training programmes is to increase the pool of trained transplant coordinators as they help both with counselling families about organ donation and with organ retrieval and transplant at the hospital level.
MOHAN Foundation’s initiative for Transplant coordinators’ training is supported by the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust. |
