A Tailor stitches his way into people’s lives |
Youngest in the family of three, all of whom are tailors, 25 year old Dasharath was determined that he would educate himself well and become a graduate. After becoming a graduate, he joined the tiny family business in tailoring at Shahalibanda in Hyderabad. On the night of 27th, he was going back home after a day’s hard work on his two wheeler. Unfortunately, he met with an accident, which resulted in a severe head injury. He was immediately rushed to Care Hospital, Banjara Hills, where he was put on a ventilator. As he did not recover at all, doctors declared him “brain dead” on the evening of 28th.
Doctors at Care Hospital along with MOHAN Foundation’s CEO, Mr. Raghuram counselled the family to donate Dasharath’s organs, so that he continues to live on in at least five people. Without any hesitation, his brothers agreed to donate his organs. Dasharath’s heart, liver, kidneys and eyes were retrieved on the night of 28th and transplanted on young patients that were eagerly waiting for the life saving organs.
Recollecting that one of his close friends who suffered kidney failure and died without getting an organ, his brother Gopal said, “I know how precious these organs are. I want to ensure that they give life to young people that are waiting for them. This is my small contribution to this cause”.
MOHAN Foundation has facilitated 17 organ donations during 2011, out of which 24 kidneys, 10 livers, 2 hearts, 20 heart valves and 74 eyes have been retrieved and transplanted on needy patients. |
