MOHAN Foundation invited to speak at Workshop on Organ Donation at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali |
On December 23, 2016 Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director - MOHAN Foundation was invited by Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali to speak at a Workshop on Organ Donation organized by Max Organ Transplant Network. Max Vaishali is keen to set up a deceased donation program and the workshop was aimed to sensitize doctors, nurses and students (medicine and paramedical) on the various aspects of organ donation and transplantation - medical, legal and counseling.
The first session was by Dr. Neeru P. Aggarwal (Associate Director- Nephrology) on the need for deceased donation. The other sessions that followed were 'Brain death and identification of Brain dead patients' by Dr. Sanjay Saxena (Director and HOD - Neurology); 'Maintenance of Brain dead patients' by Dr. Manish Marda, (Sr. Consultant - Neuro Anaesthesia and Critical Care); 'Counseling of Brain Dead Patients' families' by Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation); 'Organ Sharing policy in India' by Dr. Vimal Bhandari, (Director, NOTTO); 'Multi- Organ Retrieval' by Dr. Kewal Krishan, (Program Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist Devices, Saket);' Kidney Retrieval - process and distribution' by Dr.Anant Kumar,(Chairman Urology, - Oncology and Kidney Transplantation) and Concluding remarks by Dr. Satish Chhabra, Associate Director and Clinical Administrator - Nephrology.
Ms. Pallavi addressed the gathering, which comprised of doctors, nurses, Para medical staff and administrative personnel. She appealed to the representatives from the senior management present in the audience on their involvement in this program for it to be successful and setting up SOP's in every aspect of the process to streamline processes and set systems. She laid a special emphasis on the role of a transplant coordinator and stressed that if any hospital wants to have a successful transplant program it must empower its transplant coordinators. Since a transplant coordinator is usually multi-tasking across different departments, he/she should be ensured all the support needed. She also pointed out that in the case of brain death the time of the second apnea test is the time of the death.
Around 100 people attended the session. |
