Station House Officers and constables under the Chennai wing of the Railway police were given a training on the “Role of Police in Organ Donation”. More than 30police personnel attended the training on 4^th November 2015 at the Training Centre in Egmore.

The programme began with a self introduction by the trainers of MOHAN Foundation, followed by the welcome address. The participants were asked about their expectations in an interactive session.  Ms Sunitha A T, Ms Sujatha  Niranjan and Mr Prakash K were the resource persons from MOHAN Foundation.

The training comprised of the following sessions

• Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
  • Concept and types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
  • Role of police in deceased organ donation
  • Transplantation of Human Organ Act , Government Orders and Police Circulars
  • Government hospital protocol
  • Few case studies to highlight the role of police

A few short films were shown to highlight the importance of organ donation. At the end of the session test was conducted to check their knowledge. The trainees also evaluated the training.  More than 30 police personnel participated and supported the noble cause and all of them took donor cards. After the training few trainees suggested MOHAN Foundation to conduct trainings for the sub inspectors and it should be all over Tamil Nadu.
