Dr. Vijayanand Palaniswamy, Intensivist at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital took the initiative of organizing a Symposium on organ donation and transplant coordination aimed at nurses of all hospitals.
The one day symposium designed to cover all aspects of organ donation concepts of organ donation and brain death, declaration protocols, Law pertaining to organ donation, grief counseling, Tamil Nadu model of organ sharing and handling medico legal cases.
The program started with a formal inauguration, where the Mayor of Coimbatore, Sri. P. Rajkumar M.A., L.L.B., Ph.D. was the chief guest. Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation and Dr. Amalorpavanathan, Coordinator for Cadaver Transplant Program, Government of Tamil Nadu, were the other guests. Two organ donor families were felicitated by the Mayor. Three recipients of kidney transplant shared their experiences as a patient, and how they feel after the transplant.
After the inauguration session, the scientific session was started. Around 600 nurses, nursing and other students participated in the symposium. Everyone participated very enthusiastically and asked several questions. In the panel discussion, everyone shared their opinion extremely well. Several youngsters gave excellent feedback about the symposium and pledged to support organ donation movement. |
