MOHAN Foundation conducts awareness session on organ donation for the students of Akshay Pratishthan |
On November 2, 2014, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the under graduate & post graduate students pursuing Social Work from IGNOU’s Open School at Akshay Pratishthan, New Delhi.
For the last 3 years MF has been regularly conducting awareness sessions on organ donation at Akshay Pratishthan due to the individual efforts of Ms Vaidehi Subramani (ex Director Akshay Pratishthan) to promote organ donation.
Akshay Pratishthan was set up as a unique "experiment" in inclusion and inclusive education. In 1998 what began as a small school in tents in Dakshinpuri (New Delhi) has expanded to become a rehabilitation centre supporting more than 450 children. Apart from education, Akshay Pratishthan is well known for its vocational training, medical care and employment opportunities that also give the disabled and backward sections of society a platform in various avenues.
The particular session was incorporated into the curriculum of BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) and MSW (Masters in Social Work) students as an orientation class. The questions put forth by the students showed both academic as well as personal interests in organ donation.
The session covered topics like concept of organ donation, brain death, difference between cardiac death and brain death and also showed a conclusive video clip explaining the concept of brain death. The transplantation law (THO Act) was also explained in detail and finally the session was concluded touching upon some myths and facts related to organ donation.
65 students attended the session and 45 donor cards were picked up. |
