MOHAN Foundation speaks about Organ Donation to the congregation of St. Antony‘s Syro Malabar Church |
An awareness talk on organ donation was organised at St. Antony’s Syro Malabar Church, Gowrivakkam, Chennai on 3rd November 2013. The session was organised by Mr. Francis, a member of the parish in order to create awareness on the organ donation. The session was conducted by Ms. Sunitha A. T. Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai. She addressed the audience who had gathered for their Sunday mass.
The programme started with an introductory speech given by parish priest on motivating the gathering to donate their organs after death. Ms. Sunitha gave a PowerPoint presentation on the concept of organ donation. In her session she covered following topics: importance of organ donation, types of donations – live and deceased donation, difference between coma, cardiac death and brain death, organs that can be donated, preservation time of organs, Donor card and the role of nurses in maintaining the potential donor (brain death donation). After the session the church distributed consent forms for organ donation. More than 85 of them expressed their wish to donate their organs
More than 150 members participated in the programme expressed their support for organ donation. They planned to organise an awareness programme for the parish member of Ayanavaram Church Chennai on 17th November 2013. On 21st of December 2013 they have planned to do a mega event where they going to provide the donor cards to show their support. They also requested the MOHAN Foundation to support them for the good cause.
