Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Dhanas Village, Chandigarh |
PM SHRI School Jawahar Navodhya Vidyalaya had organized a rural camp at Dhanas Village in the outskirts of Chandigarh on 6th March 2025. “PM SHRI Program” a flagship Programme of Government of India for Jawahar Navodhya Vidyalaya is being implemented. For one of their activities they invited MOHAN Foundation to give a talk to the villagers on Organ donation at Dhanas Village Chandigarh. Ms. Neha Sharma addressed the audience telling them how important is Organ Donation and it provides a great opportunity in everyone’s life to come forward and pledge to donate their organs can save lives. Ms. Neha Sharma began the session by explaining the full form of MOHAN. She informed the audience that MOHAN is not someone’s name but an acronym. She explained the concept of brain death and organ donation. Around 35 villagers attended the session, along with 6 School students. She then elaborated on the current status of organ donation in India, covering various topics in detail: What is organ donation, and why is it important to donate organs? Who can be an organ donor? Explanation of live and deceased donors Organ donation during life and after death Brain death Differences between coma and brain death Eye donation and steps required to preserve corneas after death Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 Role of the MOHAN Foundation What an individual can do to contribute to this noble cause Myths and facts about organ donation
The villagers were well informed about organ donation and they wanted to know if they can also do whole body donation for research purpose. Another person at the talk also asked if organs once transplanted can be used for the second time. At the end of the talk the group pledged to be organ donors by picking up donor cards and also took the donor cards for their family members. They also promised to spread the awareness to their friends and family.
