Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Anjuna, Goa |
On January 28, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the Sacred Heart of Jesus High School in Anjuna, Goa.
Mr. Gabriel held the talk during the school assembly, as guided by the Headmistress, Mrs. Bemvinda Dias. There were around 200 students from 5th to 10th grade.
He began by introducing himself and the MOHAN Foundation. After asking the students and teachers what they knew about organ donation, he explained that they could share the message with their families while they were too young to donate themselves. He emphasized that they had the power to help save a life of someone suffering from end-stage organ failure. He then showed a film titled "Live Life Varun Size," which focuses on organ donation and illustrates how one can continue living through someone else by donating organs.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, he covered several key topics: 1. Types of death 2. Which tissues and organs can be donated in cases of circulatory death and brain stem death 3. An explanation of brain stem death 4. How individuals can express their consent for organ donation
To reinforce his message, Mr. Pereira recommended watching Aye Zindagi, currently streaming on Zee5. The film is based on the true story of Vinay, a software engineer diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and his emotional journey with grief counselor Revathy Rajan. Her character is inspired by Lalitha Raghuram, the Country Director of the MOHAN Foundation, who, along with her family, made the courageous decision to donate her son’s organs after his passing.
Mr. Pereira thanked Headmistress Mrs. Bemvinda Dias, the management, teachers, and students for allowing the MOHAN Foundation to conduct the talk. He also wished the Class 10 students the very best in their upcoming board examinations.
