Organ Donation Awareness at Punnapakkam, Tiruvallur District |
On January 21, 2025 in partnership with ARUWYE Foundation an awareness session was organized to the community membersof Punnapakkam Village, Tiruvallur district at ST Settlement Area. The topics of awareness were Human Trafficking and Organ Donation. To mobilize the crowd Ms. Bhavani Priya, Intern from Nazarath College, Chennai along with ARUWYE staff went into the streets playing Parai (a traditional musical instrument). The community gathered at a common place of the village, Ms. Kamala, Women Coordinator, ARUWYE, gave a brief introduction and spoke about human trafficking and prevention. Mr. Ganesh C, represented MOHAN Foundation, and gave a detailed account of organ donation and transplantation. he touched upon how to keep healthy, how to avail a transplant, government schemes on transplantation, organ donation helpline number 1800 103 7100. He then narrated a donor story to motivate and how a small yes can enlighten lives of several. Information brochures on organ donation and refreshment were distributed to all the 36 members who participated. The below were the questions asked: 1. Can transgender people donate? 2. Will the eye bank really come to rural areas to collect eyes? 3. Can the government scheme on transplantation be accepted in private hospitals? 4. Why is the success rate in private hospitals more?
