Organ Donation Stall at Sangam village under Dr. Mk.Umathe College, Nagpur |
On January 11, 2025, the MOHAN Foundation, represented by transplant coordinator Mr. Bulu J. Behera, took part in an awareness event at Dr. M.K. Umathe College in Pannase, Nagpur. The event, part of the college's NSS camp, was organized by NSS officer Dr. Vinod Khedkar and took place in Sangam village on Higna Road. In addition to a health check-up camp run by MOC Cancer Hospital, the MOHAN Foundation set up a stall to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation among the local community. Mr. Behera actively engaged with visitors at the stall, using banners, brochures, donor cards, standees, and informational leaflets to explain important topics. He discussed the concept of organ donation, the difference between natural death and brain death, and which organs and tissues can be donated in each case. He also covered the differences between coma and brain death, the legal and ethical aspects of organ donation, and provided specific details about hand and leg transplants, body donation, and eye donation. The villagers showed great interest, asking thoughtful questions such as: 1) What is the time for eye and body donation? 2) If their heart is betting how we convince patient is brain death? These discussions highlighted the community's curiosity and willingness to learn about the cause. Approximately 45 individuals visited the stall, and 3 people pledged for organ donation, committing to organ donation. This outcome underscored the event's success in fostering awareness and action within the local population. MOHAN Foundation expressed gratitude to Dr. Vinod Khedkar for his invitation and support in promoting this noble cause. By combining health education with community engagement, the event made a significant impact, encouraging a deeper understanding of organ donation and inspiring others to contribute to saving lives.
