On January 3, 2025, an organ donation awareness stall was set up at the Super Specialty Hospital, Tukdoji Square, Nagpur, by Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator of the MOHAN Foundation. The event received valuable support from Dr. Sushama Thakare, Officer of Special Duty (OSD) at the hospital, who facilitated the setup of the stall during the Kidney Patient OPD day. This timing was particularly significant, as many of the OPD visitors hailed from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with limited awareness of organ donation and transplantation processes. Dr. Thakare's support played a crucial role in providing these individuals with vital information about organ donation, addressing gaps in knowledge that could ultimately save lives.

The stall featured various materials such as banners, brochures, donor cards, and a standee, which helped Mr. Behera educate visitors about the critical aspects of organ donation. Topics covered included the difference between natural and brain death, the types of organs and tissues eligible for donation, the registration process, and specific information on kidney, liver, heart, and hand transplants. He also shared details about the MOHAN Foundation’s initiatives, the Organ Transplant Act of 1994, and various associated organizations like NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, and ZTCC.

Visitors raised several pertinent questions, including:

1. Whom to contact after brain death?
2. What is the time required to hand over the body after donation?

Approximately 40 patients and relatives visited the stall, and 5 individuals pledged to donate their organs. Many kidney patients, previously unaware of the transplantation procedures, expressed their gratitude for the newfound knowledge. This initiative proved to be a valuable platform for increasing awareness about organ donation. Special thanks were extended to Dr. Thakare for her support, which made this impactful initiative possible.
