On December 18, 2024, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an organ donation awareness session as part of a five-day "Induction Course Training Program" for Traffic Police personnel at the Traffic Police Headquarters in Todapur, New Delhi. Mr. Rajveer Singh, Head Constable at the Training School of the Traffic Police Headquarters, coordinated with the MF team to include the session in the training schedule. MF has been conducting similar awareness sessions for Traffic Police personnel since March 2023.

The session was attended by senior and junior officers from the police force and was led by Ms. Sanya Santosh, accompanied by Ms. Simran Anand, both Programme Officers at MF, Delhi NCR.

The session began interactively, with Ms. Sanya inviting participants to share their current understanding of organ donation. This exercise helped set the session's tone and highlighted knowledge gaps to be addressed during the presentation. Following this, Ms. Sanya delivered a structured and informative PowerPoint presentation covering key aspects of organ donation, including:

• The meaning and societal importance of organ donation

• The current state of organ donation in India

• The distinction between living and deceased donors

• Opportunities for organ donation from living and deceased donors.

• An explanation of brain death, its causes, and how it differs from a coma

• Eye donation and the steps to preserve corneas after death

• An overview of the Human Organ Transplantation Act of 1994, including the mandatory "required request" clause

• Contraindications that may prevent organ donation

• The role of MOHAN Foundation

• Common myths and facts about organ donation

To reinforce these concepts, an informative film on brain death was screened, emphasizing the critical role of family consent in facilitating organ donation. Participants actively engaged throughout the session, posing relevant questions about tissue retrieval and storage methods and the organ donation pledge process.
