Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Sridora Caculo College, Mapusa, Goa

On December 13, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador for the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an inspiring talk on organ donation to students and teachers of Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management, Khorlim, Mapusa, Goa.

Mr. Gabriel engaged the audience by asking whether a person who passes away at home can be an organ donor. Most attendees responded affirmatively. He clarified that individuals who die at home cannot donate organs but can still donate tissues, such as skin, eyes, and, in some cases, their entire body.

He introduced the MOHAN Foundation and outlined its distinguished 27-year history of advocating for organ donation. He shared the personal experience of his sister-in-law's kidney transplant, which profoundly motivated him to pursue the Foundation's Organ Donation Ambassador course. Since completing the course, he has dedicated himself to raising awareness about organ donation, aiming to ensure that no one dies while awaiting a transplant.

He urged students to extend the discussion beyond the college, encouraging their families and friends to support this life-saving cause.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, he covered essential topics such as circulatory and brain-stem death, the organ and tissue donation process, organ allocation, green corridors, and how to obtain a donor card. He provided practical guidance on becoming a donor, including scanning a QR code on the MOHAN Foundation’s website or opting for organ donation while applying for a driver’s license.

Approximately 60 students attended the session and received valuable information on organ donation. Twenty of them took the pledge to support organ donation.

To reinforce his message, Mr. Pereira recommended watching the film Aye Zindagi, currently streaming on Zee5. The film tells the true story of Vinay, a software engineer diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and his emotional journey with grief counsellor Revathy Rajan, who plays the role of Lalitha Raghuram, the Country Director of the MOHAN Foundation. The movie highlights the life-changing decision made by Mrs. Raghuram and her family to donate their son’s organs after his passing.
