On 11th and 12th October 2024, Mr. Bulu J. Behera, a transplant coordinator from the MOHAN Foundation, set up an organ donation awareness stall at Deekshabhoomi, Laxmi Nagar, Nagpur, at the invitation of Dr. Sunil Kamble, the Chief Medical Officer of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Laxmi Nagar Zone. The stall was equipped with donor cards, brochures, banners, standees, and helpline pamphlets to provide essential information about organ donation to the public. Mr. Behera engaged with visitors, sharing detailed insights on various aspects of organ donation. He explained what organ donation is, who can donate organs, and the differences between coma and brain death, as well as between natural death and brain death. He also clarified which organs and tissues can be donated following brain death and natural death, the age limits for organ donation, and the critical time factors involved in organ transplantation. Mr. Behera further discussed the legal and ethical procedures surrounding organ donation, including the provisions of the Organ Transplant Act of 1994. He provided valuable information about the roles of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, and ZTCC in organ donation coordination. Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions during the session. Some of the key queries included: Who is the head of the MOHAN Foundation? What is the age limit for organ donation? Is there financial support provided by the MOHAN Foundation? Mr. Behera addressed these questions in detail. On both days, approximately 1,000 visitors visited the stall, and 10 of them signed consent forms to pledge their support for organ donation. At the end of the event, Mr. Behera thanked Dr. Sunil Kamble for his support in promoting this noble cause and raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.
