On October 25, 2024, Mr. Bulu Behera, a transplant coordinator from the MOHAN Foundation, was invited by Mrs. Poonam Lohane, the Nursing In-charge at Kunal Hospital, Mankapur, Nagpur, to conduct an organ donation awareness session for the hospital's nursing staff. Mr. Behera delivered an informative and engaging audio-visual presentation covering various aspects of organ donation. He provided detailed information on what organ donation is, the difference between organ and tissue donation, and the types of tissues and organs that can be donated following natural and brain death. He also explained the age limits for organ and tissue donation, the critical time factors involved in organ transplantation, and the common myths and facts surrounding organ donation. Additionally, Mr. Behera discussed the legal process for organ donation under the Organ Transplant Act of 1994 and provided information about national and regional organizations such as NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, and ZTCC, which oversee organ donation efforts in India. The session also covered the role of the MOHAN Foundation, donor cards, helpline numbers, and information on body donation, eye donation, hand transplants, and the necessary forms for live organ transplantation. During the interactive Q&A session, participants asked questions about the kidney transplant registration process, how the MOHAN Foundation is notified after a person’s death, and the difference between coma and brain death. Mr. Behera answered these queries thoroughly. At the conclusion of the session, he thanked Mrs. Poonam Lohane for facilitating the talk on this important cause. Approximately 35 nursing staff members attended the session, and 10 of them signed donor consent forms, expressing their commitment to organ donation. |
