MOHAN Foundation Participates in the Organ Donation Summit Organized by Manipal Organ Sharing and Transplant (MOST)

On October 4 and 5, 2024, Manipal Organ Sharing & Transplant (MOST) organized an Organ Donation Summit in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation (MF), the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Pune, and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) Pune, held at Hotel Novotel, Pune. Dr. (Col) Avnish Seth, VSM, Head of MOST, served as the Organizing Chairperson. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director of MF, and Ms. Jaya Jairam, Project Director of MF, attended the summit.

The two-day event brought together leading national and international experts in organ donation and transplantation to discuss critical topics, including “Donation after Circulatory Death” (DCD) and “Quality Assessment in Organ Donation,” aimed at setting new standards for organ donation procedures in India.

Ms. Pallavi Kumar was invited to moderate a session led by Dr. (Col) Avnish Seth on Quality Assessment and Scoring Systems for Organ Donation in India, with Ms. Jaya Jairam chairing the session.

A key highlight of the summit was the presentation of a low-cost hybrid Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) circuit for normothermic regional perfusion, a technology designed to enhance organ preservation in DCD scenarios. This innovation is expected to transform the organ donation process by increasing the viability of organs for transplantation, thereby saving more lives.

The summit concluded with a strong call for deeper collaboration among healthcare professionals, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to establish a sustainable organ donation framework that enables timely transplants and saves more lives.
