On September 3, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an enlightening sensitization session on organ and tissue donation for employees of the South-East-Central Railway at the Nagpur Divisional Office, held in Gunjan Hall. Shri Uday Kumar Bharti, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer of SEC Railway, warmly welcomed the MOHAN Foundation representatives, Mr. Devang Chhaya and Ms. Veena Wathore, with a bouquet.

In his opening remarks, Shri Uday Kumar Bharti emphasized the vital significance of organ donation, highlighting how it can transform lives and give hope to those in need.

Mr. Devang Chhaya, a dedicated MOHAN Foundation Ambassador, initiated the session by reciting a poignant poem by Gulzar, titled मौत, तू एक कविता है, मुझसे एक कविता का वादा है, मिलेगी मुझको He articulated that organ donation represents a profound final gift—an ‘आखरी तोहफा’—that one can offer to another individual in need.

During his presentation, Mr. Devang introduced the concept of organ donation through the lens of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THO Act). He elaborated on the types of death, including natural and brain death, and explained which organs can be donated under these circumstances. He also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation, providing clarity and factual information to dispel fears.

Following Mr. Devang  presentation, Ms. Veena highlighted the critical importance of obtaining a donor card and elaborated on how it serves as a vital document expressing one’s wish to donate organs. She engaged with the audience, answering their questions thoughtfully and ensuring that everyone left with a deeper understanding of the process and significance of organ donation.

Mr. Bulu Behera distributed pledge forms, informative pamphlets, and helpline stickers, encouraging attendees to take action and further educate themselves on this life-saving initiative.

The session concluded with a sense of renewed awareness and commitment among the participants to promote and support organ and tissue donation within their communities. This initiative by the MOHAN Foundation is a significant step towards increasing awareness and fostering a culture of donation among railway employees and beyond.
