On September 13, 2024, first-year MSW students from Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work (MSSISW), Bajaj Nagar, visited the MOHAN Foundation Nagpur Center as part of their curriculum's social work practicum. The visit was facilitated by Principal Dr. Purshottam Borkar and Director Dr. Amod Gurjar, who expressed a keen interest in allowing their students to observe and understand the foundation's operations. Mr. Bulu, of MOHAN Foundation, provided a comprehensive overview of the foundation's activities. He covered various essential topics, including the foundation’s aims and objectives, its brief history, and the administrative structure that supports its mission. The session also highlighted the client system, legal status, funding patterns, and challenges faced by the organization. Mr. Bulu elaborated on the needs of clients, the role of social workers within the organization, and the future plans of the MOHAN Foundation. He emphasized the importance of donor cards and provided information on the helpline number. Additionally, the students learned about the National and Regional Transplant Organizations (NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO) and the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) related to organ donation. The discussion also included insights into the Organ Transplant Act of 1994. Ms. Veena further supported the session by answering questions from the students. She provided additional information on body donation, hand transplants, and training opportunities offered by the MOHAN Foundation for aspiring social workers. The students posed several questions, including inquiries about job opportunities post-training, the differences between coma and brain death, and ways to collaborate with the MOHAN Foundation. Ms. Veena addressed each query with thorough explanations, fostering an engaging dialogue. Overall, the observational visit, attended by approximately 30 students and faculty members, was a valuable experience, enriching their understanding of organ donation and the critical role of social work in this field. The students left with a greater awareness of the MOHAN Foundation's mission and the vital impact of their work in society.
