On August 15, 2024, an informative organ donation stall was set up at Gurukul Ashram Shala, Udasa, as part of the Independence Day celebration and social event 'Tarang 2024.' This initiative was organized by the Nagpur Group of Friends-MAA and Shri Pratap Dewani, Director of Shri Pessulal Dewani Dharmashala, who invited MOHAN Foundation to lead the event. Mr. Bulu Behera from MOHAN Foundation spearheaded the stall, which featured a variety of materials, including consent forms, donor cards, standees, and banners. Mr. Behera provided comprehensive information on various aspects of organ donation. He explained the definitions and eligibility criteria for organ donation, detailing the different types of death, such as brain death and natural death, and specifying which organs and tissues can be donated in each case. The stall also covered differences between organs and tissues, age limits for donation, and processes involved in eye and body donation, as well as live and cadaver transplants. Additionally, Mr. Behera discussed the regulations under the Organ Transplant Act of 1994 and highlighted the importance of donor cards, helplines, and the role of MOHAN Foundation in promoting organ donation. Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions, which Mr. Behera addressed thoroughly. Inquiries included the documents required for kidney transplant registration, government schemes for organ transplants, the lifespan of patients post-transplant, and the differences between coma and brain death. Approximately 70 visitors attended the stall, with 10 individuals signing up for organ donation. The event proved to be a significant step in raising awareness about organ donation. Shri Pratap Dewani's support in providing space for the stall was instrumental in facilitating this crucial outreach. The enthusiastic engagement and participation at the stall highlighted the community’s growing interest and commitment to organ donation.
