Rally to Promote Organ Donation on National Organ Donation Day at GMCH-Nagpur |
In alignment with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare's "Angdan Jagurkta Abhiyan," a public awareness campaign to promote organ donation, July 2024 was designated as Organ Donation Month, with August 3rd observed as National Organ Donation Day. On this occasion, MOHAN Foundation-Nagpur, in partnership with Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, organized a rally to raise awareness about organ donation. On August 3, 2024, the rally was held on the GMCH campus. The event was attended by Dr. Raj Gajbhiye, Dean; Dr. Uday Narlawar, Vice Dean; Dr. Avinash Gawande, Medical Superintendent; various Heads of Departments; IMA President Dr. Manjusha Giri; doctors, junior residents, interns, MBBS students, social service superintendents, nursing staff, occupational therapy students, and NCC students. Approximately 500-600 students and staff participated in the rally. The rally featured a street play performed twice by medical students at Tukdoji Square and in front of the Dean's Chamber, delivering a powerful message about organ donation. MOHAN Foundation distributed placards, informational brochures, and badges to participants. A selfie point with the message "I am proud to be a donor" was set up at the OPD for the entire day, encouraging attendees to show their support. Following the rally, prizes were awarded to students who participated in various competitions related to organ donation awareness. Dr. Raj Gajbhiye, Dean, praised MOHAN Foundation for their efforts and support in promoting this critical cause. The event successfully engaged the community and reinforced the importance of organ donation.
